This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars are young, vibrant, creative, ambitious, and driven. Unfortunately, my school district is located in an area that is low-income/high poverty. We do not have the funds to buy the furniture to provide our scholar's flexible seating. Which allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean, or stand. This type of seating has been noted to increase oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep students with disabilities' minds more alert and focused.
Despite the many challenges, my scholars face both in and out of the classroom; they come to school eager to learn.
They are intellectually engaged in challenging content; they reflect upon their learning, grasp new concepts at a rigorous pace with lots of repetition, and are independent and self-motivated learners.
From the minute, the scholars walk into the school building, our staff focus on their potential and growth. Unfortunately, we cannot control their home lives. However, we work extremely hard within our school community to ensure that our scholars receive the tools and strategies needed to be lifelong learners to continue on their path of academic excellence.
My Project
With our scholars returning to in-person learning full-time, these materials will make a difference in my students' education because they will allow them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean, or stand. This type of seating has been noted to increase oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep students with disabilities' minds more alert and focused. Furthermore, this is a significant improvement and the correct direction in education because the goal for all students is to allow them to have a choice in their education. Having a choice in seating allows the students to feel empowered and will enable them to have some control over their environment.
