My Project

It has been three years since I started teaching upper grades, and I have witnessed firsthand the challenges students face when foundational reading skills are not solidified by the time they reach upper elementary grades, especially in content area subjects. These gaps hinder their ability to fully engage with the 5th-grade curriculum and access the same content as their peers.

To ensure every student is prepared for the rigors of 5th grade, I am seeking support to provide essential resources that will enhance their learning experience, specifically targeting areas where gaps exist in reading abilities.

By providing focused support, we can equip students with the skills necessary to excel.

I am requesting a Text to Speech Device and hand2mind Phoneme Phone to address the diverse needs of my students. The SVANTTO pen scanner empowers struggling readers and students with dyslexia, promoting independence and confidence by making reading more accessible. For my English language learners, this device provides pronunciation, translations, and definitions in 12 popular languages, helping them grasp content more effectively.

The Phoneme Phone will be instrumental in building phonemic awareness. By allowing students to hear their own amplified voice, this tool helps students understand and improve their pronunciation, which is vital for both my English language learners and struggling readers.
