Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a preschool collaborative classroom. I have fourteen typically developing students and ten students with special needs: Autistic and Speech-Language Impairments. My school is located in a low-income community where the majority are Latinos from immigrant families and first-generation. Most of my students are English Language Learners. My students are energetic, curious, lovable, and eager to learn. My students enjoy music, books, building, art, and learning through play. However, my program lacks many diverse and instructional tools and materials to engage in their specific needs.

My Project

These books will help my students learn about differences, diversity, race, family, love, feelings, and S.T.E.M. As we safely return to school students will not be able to share books anymore. These board books will allow teachers to sanitize them daily and rotate them among all students. Adding these board books to our classroom will help students engage in literacy, promote language development, encourage a love for books, develop early literacy skills, and build vocabulary in different subjects (e.g., math, science, race, diversity, feelings, differences, and much more). Having these diverse board books in our classroom will spark the love of reading because these books are age-appropriate, with large print, and colorful pictures.
