This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their resilience and enthusiasm for learning. As multilingual learners in my Spanish classroom, they bring a wealth of cultural experiences and linguistic knowledge that enriches our learning environment every day. Their determination to master a new language while navigating the challenges of balancing multiple cultures is truly inspiring.

To support their social-emotional growth alongside their language development, I'm seeking to create a dedicated SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) corner in our classroom.

This space will provide a safe haven for students to decompress, reflect, and recharge during their language learning journey.

Here's how each requested resource will benefit our multilingual learners:

Couch:

A comfortable couch will serve as the centerpiece of our SEL corner. It will provide a cozy spot for students to relax and engage in quiet reading of Spanish books, practice mindfulness exercises, or have small group conversations to build their language skills in a low-pressure environment.

Bean Bags:

Bean bags will offer flexible seating options, allowing students to find comfortable positions that help them focus during independent study or small group activities. These informal seating arrangements can help reduce anxiety and create a more relaxed atmosphere for language practice.

Fidgets:

A variety of fidget tools will help our multilingual learners manage stress and improve focus during challenging language tasks. These tactile tools can be especially beneficial for students who may feel overwhelmed when processing multiple languages, providing a physical outlet for nervous energy and helping them stay engaged in lessons.

By creating this SEL corner, we'll be providing our multilingual students with a dedicated space that supports both their emotional well-being and language acquisition.
