My Project

Our middle school, located in an economically disadvantaged area of Mississippi, is striving to provide our students with innovative opportunities to engage with technology and build valuable skills. We believe that introducing esports into our technology classroom can serve as a powerful incentive for learning and community building. By acquiring an Xbox Series X console, controller, batteries, and a charging station, we aim to establish an esports team that will not only foster teamwork and critical thinking but also provide a safe and inclusive space for our predominantly African American student body to explore their interests and talents.

Goals:

Promote STEM Engagement: By integrating gaming technology into our classroom, we can capture students' interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Esports involves complex problem-solving, strategy development, and digital literacy, all of which are valuable skills for future success.

Build Community: Many of our students come from diverse backgrounds and face economic challenges. Creating an esports team will offer them a sense of belonging and camaraderie, fostering positive relationships and peer support within the school community.

Develop Soft Skills: Esports requires effective communication, teamwork, and leadership—skills that are crucial for success both in school and beyond. By participating in organized gaming competitions, students will learn to collaborate, strategize, and adapt to challenges.

Provide Positive Incentives: Gaming can be a powerful motivator for students. By offering esports as an incentive, we can encourage positive behavior, attendance, and academic achievement. This approach aligns with our school's commitment to implementing innovative and effective teaching strategies.

Our school serves a predominantly African American student population from low-income families in Mississippi. Despite facing various challenges, our students are eager to learn and succeed. By providing them with access to cutting-edge technology and educational opportunities, we aim to empower them to reach their full potential.
