Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our student athletes have the desire to be great, but need some support. Currently in our school weight room, equipment is geared toward the stronger population of athletes leaving the beginner athletes with little to no equipment. These dumbbells, barbells, and weightlifting equipment will be useful for helping all of our athletes including the girls basketball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, and softball team.

We would like to provide a more conducive female weightlifting environment to promote female athlete involvement in athletics, while learning to lead healthy lifestyles.

As a public school we are struggling with student enrollment and participation in athletics, especially with our female athlete population. These girls work hard with the little they have and deserve better equipment to reach their potential.

Coach Fernandez will only receive their materials if this project is fully funded by March 3.

Donations to this project are now being matched, thanks to support from The DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation. Schools in low-income communities offer just ⅔ of the sports opportunities as schools in more affluent communities.

That’s why The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation is matching up to $400,000 in donations to sports and fitness at US public schools that have historically been underfunded due to racial and economic inequity.
