My Project

My classroom is a hub of innovation within a Title 1 high school's industrial and engineering technology academy, where students are embarking on an exciting engineering pathway. However, many of our students come from high English Learner (EL) backgrounds, requiring hands-on, visual learning experiences to truly grasp complex concepts. That's why we're seeking the SparkFun Inventor's Kit.

This isn't just a box of parts; it's a gateway to understanding the fundamental principles of electronics, circuits, and coding.

The breadboards, sensors, and Arduino-compatible microcontrollers will transform abstract ideas into tangible realities. Students will learn by doing, building interactive projects that demonstrate the practical applications of STEM concepts. This hands-on approach is especially crucial for our EL students, who benefit immensely from visual and kinesthetic learning. By manipulating components and seeing immediate results, they'll develop a deeper understanding of electronics than traditional lectures could ever provide.

My goal for this project are multifaceted. First, I aim to bridge the opportunity gap by providing equitable access to cutting-edge technology and learning experiences. Second, I want to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among our students. By empowering them to design and build their own projects, we're nurturing the next generation of engineers and innovators. Finally, we want to ignite a passion for STEM that extends beyond the classroom, inspiring students to pursue further education and careers in technical fields.

What makes my students special is their resilience and determination. They face unique challenges, yet they approach learning with enthusiasm and a desire to succeed. Their diverse backgrounds bring a wealth of perspectives to our classroom, enriching our learning environment. By providing them with the tools and resources they need, we're empowering them to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential.
