Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our bilingual school, many special education students—primarily Spanish-speaking—have so many strengths and also learning differences that this project seeks to support. Many of my students have autism or learning disabilities and thrive when engaged in sensory-based learning. I am requesting support for their growth through sensory tools and practical classroom resources.

With your support, I can create a learning environment tailored to their unique needs and abilities, helping them grow academically and emotionally.

The key item in this project is a small group carpet area, which will provide a dedicated space to teach boundaries and listening skills for kindergarten through 2nd-grade students. Sensory fidgets will help reinforce basic academic skills like the alphabet and numbers. These tools are essential in helping my students stay focused and engaged.

To further support their development, I’ve also requested a book on morning meetings for special education, giving us more opportunities to build strong relationships and community. Visual timers and voice level indicators will help my students self-regulate, while cleaning materials will encourage them to take pride in their environment, fostering responsibility and teamwork. These resources will make a lasting difference in how my students approach functional academic skills and social-emotional learning.
