This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an impoverished area of South Los Angeles. All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school where ninety-nine percent of our students receive free meals. My students always try their best at everything and anything, despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.

They are already not expected to have it as easy as others, but we learn that with hard work and consistency, they can be "unique" or different from the rest.

My students are so eager to learn that it makes coming to work easy!

My Project

What was your favorite school subject? Was it Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing, or Reading? Ours is Art. This year I am trying to combine our love for art with writing and reading. You are probably asking yourself how it can be accomplished. I want to Empower Students Through Art. I want my students to become book publishers. Yes, my 10 year-olds will soon be publishers. With the requested whiteboard erasers, markers, crayons, and other supplies my students will be creating a book that will be published into a hard-cover book. The markers will be used to give life to the illustrations. The whiteboard materials will be used to illustrate the first idea since we can't afford to create and erase our illustration pages. With your kind donations, my students will have the art supplies that are needed to learn about writing and reading through an art lens.
