This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am incredibly fortunate to work with a diverse group of students who are eager to learn and explore the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). My 6th-grade and 3rd-6th grade GATE students are curious, creative, and driven to make a difference in their world. They thrive in hands-on, project-based learning environments where they can innovate, collaborate, and problem-solve.

The Hummingbird Classroom Flock Kits and Micro:bits will provide my students with the tools they need to bring their ideas to life.

These kits will allow them to build robots, create interactive artwork, and develop real-world solutions using coding and engineering principles. With these resources, students will have the chance to develop technical skills while also enhancing their social-emotional learning (SEL), as they work together, share ideas, and overcome challenges as a team.

My goal for this project is to foster a love for STEAM subjects, encourage creative thinking, and build confidence in innovation. I want my students to see that failure is part of the learning process, and through persistence, they can achieve great things. By working with the Hummingbird kits and Micro:bit, students will experience the joy of seeing their hard work come to life, which will help build their confidence and excitement for learning.

What makes my students special is their diversity and resilience. They come from different backgrounds and bring unique perspectives to the classroom. Whether they’re in the GATE program or receiving additional support, each student has something valuable to contribute. These kits will allow them to work at their own pace, explore their interests, and feel empowered in their learning journey.
