Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

By the end of the school year, I would love to see my students develop a love and zeal for writing. Developing and mastering great writing skills will help my students express and convey their ideas clearly. "Writing my way to success by unlocking my ideas!" is a motivation quote for my students.

I call my scholars "sunshine" because I believe that they have the potential to shine despite their educational and socio-emotional difficulties.

They are vibrant social butterflies that need to be challenged and engaged in their learning. Many of my scholars come from the surrounding housing projects and shelters. Our school is a small community family, where the administration and educators believe in the overall success of our scholars. We work hard with our scholars to ensure that they are equipped with the necessary tools to become productive members of their community. Our goal is to maximize their potential and set their feet on the right path. Unfortunately, we lack updated and properly functioning technology which sometimes hampers engagement through interactive use of technology. On the bright side, we work collaboratively to effectively engage our students.

My Project

I envision my students working feverishly to complete written reports and PowerPoint presentations to present during our Socratic seminars and collaborative discussions. I see my students that struggle with writing developing a love for writing as avenues of success open up for them. I believe that creating a writing process that concludes with a typed final piece will help increase their confidence in presenting their work as well as their ideas. The Chromebooks will also become an essential part of group work and research. Students will interact with the Chromebooks during group activities (socratic seminar) as well as individual work. They will learn how to prepare presentations, edit their work, research, and work collaboratively in their groups as they take on various responsibilities. My goal is to prepare them for the real world by thinking in terms of, "Presentation is everything."

Producing confident writer's will improve my classroom.

My students love the idea of being able to type up their essays and reports. I believe it helps them escape the pressure of producing written pieces with great penmanship. I believe this effort would improve their ability to effectively convey their ideas and understanding of a topic.
