My Project

As a teacher in Chicago, I want to do everything I can to enhance my students' mental health, approach to self-care, and quality of life.

Our students have incredible potential - they are empathetic people with the knowledge and passion to make a positive impact in our world.

At the same time, though, many of our students are struggling with anxiety, social-isolation, and other mental health challenges. That is why I aim to create a classroom environment that welcomes students after school so they can build community with their peers, develop healthy strategies to cope with mental health challenges, and grow into the promising young adults we know they can be.

This project will empower our students to achieve that. By providing students with a variety of snacks - and healthy snacks! - they will have the fuel and motivation to engage with each other during after school hours. The positive affirmation stickers will serve as a constant reminder that they each matter and we care about every single student. The coloring supplies and mindfulness cards will serve as helpful tools to engage in healthy self-care strategies so that we can all work together to confront mental health challenges. By doing that, we can empower this generation to do what they desperately want to do - change the world for the better.
