Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My lively 6th grade students this year are barrels of fun! They love to read, they are enthusiastic about math, they enjoy discussing new ideas with each other, and most importantly: (even in middle school) they are excited about learning!

Our small K-8 school has one class per grade, with special education students integrated into the middle school grades through "flexible programming." We are a tight-knit bunch, since most of my students have been together since kindergarten.

Although our school is located in a small corner of the Bronx, and remote learning has been quite a challenge, we are trying our best to connect through the internet and reinforce personal connections!

My Project

Many of the families within our Title I school community have been through a lot over the past few months: they have lost homes, jobs, income, and loved ones. This pandemic has ravaged our neighborhoods, leaving many families to wonder how they will be able to afford to stay home and care for their children, or provide reliable childcare on the days students are not in attendance within the school building.

Moreover, our students are about to embark in an unprecedented year with so many questions and uncertainties.

It would be great to provide them with the school supplies they need to feel prepared to take on this school year, so as to motivate them, empower them, and help them feel that they are supported in every way! New notebooks, bright crayons, sharp pencils, neon highlighters, and all of those amazing supplies are the best part of starting a fresh new school year. Our students deserve that feeling regardless of their families' financial circumstances.

I hope you will be able to help me give my students that happy feeling and big bright (masked) smiles by funding this project and providing them with necessary tools for success!
