Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, I'm teaching a wellness class to help my 6th graders build healthy habits and essential life skills. Research shows that practices like mindfulness, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and yoga boost students' confidence, resilience, and academic performance, especially for those who may have experienced trauma.

Through this holistic program, students engage in mindfulness breathing practices, SEL activities, and yoga while exploring essential topics like self-confidence, gratitude, self-care, empathy, goal-setting, and financial literacy.

My goal is to give them practical tools and coping strategies to support their academic, social, and emotional well-being now and in the future.

To make this program effective, we need the following resources:

SEL Literature, Manipulatives, and Games: These interactive tools make learning about empathy, resilience, and financial literacy fun and engaging, which helps develop their social-emotional skills.

Books on Mental Health, Emotional Intelligence, and Healthy Habits: A wellness library will let students independently explore mental health and wellness topics, fostering growth and knowledge.

Journals: Journals give students a space to reflect on their emotions, track goals, and build self-awareness through writing.

Yoga Mats and Props: These will support mindfulness and yoga exercises, promoting both physical and mental balance.

Classroom Decorations and Incentive Rewards: These items will help create a positive, welcoming environment and motivate students to engage.

These resources will help students build lifelong wellness habits, improve their mental health, and excel academically.
