My Project

"Just what is media art? The concept may be confusing, as media can be both traditional and contemporary, but its acceptance as embracing new forms of technology is supported by the National Art Education Association and its participation in the development of the National Core Arts Standards for Media Arts. It is a unique medium of artistic expression that can amplify and integrate traditional art forms by incorporating the technological advances of the contemporary world with emerging skill sets available to students and teachers. Media arts students cultivate both artistic abilities and a technological aptitude." - An excerpt from “What is Media Art” by Nancy Walkup (2019)

Or, as Mr. Amar often says, "we use today's technologies to express how we feel, to make connections, to imagine futures."

At Corona Arts and Sciences Academy in Corona, Queens, "we" media artists are a dynamic, brilliant middle school community, many who have just arrived in these United States. Some of us are making art for the very time. All of us are manifesting our values, transforming ourselves along the way.

We need your help. As technology wears down, and supplies are expendable, we ask you to help us close a critical gap. We can, thanks to the New York City Department of Education, use all of Adobe's amazing Creative Cloud. Each of us 300 students in our Media Arts program can create masterworks. What we cannot do is safely store, preserve, and display our work. We are producing hundreds of works a year, our drives are full and aging, our ink and paper running out. We are asking for your help to purchase four LaCie hard drives, photo paper, and ink for our Epson photo printer. With those items, we promise to dazzle.

With thanks and love.
