This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Home away from Home is made up of 30 of our very fabulous 6th Scholars. Our mission for our first literature piece is to explore empathy through the art of reading and connections with others.

Our class focuses on learning social-emotional skills in order to strengthen relationships, practicing a growth mindset and the adventure that lives in the books. We do this with laughter, grace, fearlessness, and fun.
My Project
This year in our classroom we are exploring empathy. What it means, what it looks like, how it feels and how to give it. We have decided that taking an adventure through the Ozarks with Billy, in Where the Red Fern Grows, would be a terrific way to learn it. With various topics such as loss, youth, challenges and conquering them.

Learning about empathy in all forms: text to world, text to self and text to media and being able to acknowledge what it means. Exploring through character analysis, story elements will be a driver in our reading but learning to build healthy connections with others with EMPATHY is our goal. This project will ignite our greatest adventure.... changing the world ONE classroom at a time.
