This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am passionate about empowering my students to become emotionally intelligent, empathetic, and effective communicators. These are foundational skills not just for academic success, but for navigating life’s challenges and forming meaningful relationships.

Through this SEL book collection, I hope to offer my students the tools to better understand themselves, connect with others, and express their emotions in healthy, productive ways.

The books I’ve selected for this project will make a profound difference in my students' learning. Each resource is carefully chosen to teach important social-emotional skills, such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and communication. The narratives and activities in these books will allow students to reflect on their own emotions, practice perspective-taking, and develop a vocabulary for discussing feelings and social situations.

The primary goal of this project is to foster emotional intelligence in my students so they can better manage their emotions and interact with others in a healthy and respectful way. Specifically, I aim to help students identify and articulate their emotions, teach them how to navigate social challenges, such as conflict resolution and peer relationships, and build their communication skills, both in terms of expressing their own feelings and understanding others. Additionally, I want to encourage empathy and kindness as they read about diverse characters and experiences. Ultimately, I seek to create an environment where emotional health and well-being are prioritized alongside academic growth.

With these resources, I hope to give my students the confidence to express themselves, the skills to resolve conflicts, and the compassion to truly understand one another. This project will not only enhance their emotional intelligence, but also foster a sense of community where students feel valued, understood, and supported.
