The past few years in our classroom we have been listening and reading stories by watching them on videos online. I strongly believe in the importance of students having physical books in their hand not just for the tactile experience, but to help increase the promotion of literacy skills in a promotion that is already struggling in these skills. All other resources on my list also have a prior need in my room as well.
Students that spend the most time in my classroom come from highly traumatic backgrounds that inhibit their ability to learn on a daily basis and, therefore, create a diverse set of needs in my room.
These students require additional support to maintain emotional balance and participate fully in classroom activities. The tools included in the list, such as the weighted blanket or sensory tools cater to these diverse needs. Providing these tools ensures that my classroom is inclusive and is accommodating to the individual needs of all of my students and any new needs that will arise as the year progresses.
