My Project

For many of my students, 6th grade is the first time they are taking science, a rigorous subject that requires deep thinking and critical reasoning skills. This combined with a new educational setting, means that many times students are stressed when they walk into the classroom.

Creating an empowerment zone, where students can choose a fidget or self calming tool allows my students to self regulate their emotions so they can be their best selves in science class.

Having a variety of tools and fidgets that students can choose from to meet their many different needs of the moment gives the students agency, and leads to students learning to self regulate during stressful situations.
