Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First grade marks a pivotal time as children embrace social and emotional growth, navigating their roles in a world of peers. As I prepare for the upcoming school year, I am determined to create a nurturing and emotionally supportive learning environment. To achieve this, I plan to incorporate read-aloud sessions that focus on emotions, feelings, and mindfulness.

By providing carefully selected books, I aim to help children identify and understand their feelings better, empowering them to express and manage their emotions in healthy ways.

Through these read-alouds, we will engage in meaningful discussions that encourage self-reflection and empathy toward others.

Moreover, recognizing the importance of mental breaks for overall well-being, I will encourage students to take brain breaks whenever needed throughout the school day to promote a positive learning experience.

To enhance the impact of the project, I envision creating a dedicated cozy area within the classroom where students can retreat for a calm-down time. This student-created space will be equipped with tools to help them regulate their emotions and practice mindfulness. Donations to this project will support the acquisition of the necessary materials for the read-aloud sessions, as well as the setup of the calm-down/take-a-break area.
