My Students

I teach at a Title I public school in South Alabama with about half of the student population receiving free or reduced lunch. I currently have 21 students in my First Grade Classroom. These students have a special place in my heart!

My students are eager to learn but come with limited home resources.

First grade is a pivotal year for teaching reading fundamentals including fluency and comprehension. I want to give them every opportunity to master these skills and to soar!

My Project

The lower level reading books that I have requested will be for our classroom library and will be available for all of my classroom students to use. They will have access to these books before school, when work assignments have been completed, during reading centers, and at the end of the day during dismissal.

I hope to instill a love for reading by having a literature rich classroom environment for them to thrive in!

This additional reading practice will benefit my students who do not have books at home and when they cannot use our school library due to schedule conflicts.
