Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A few years ago, a friend was telling me how her whole school upgraded from overhead projects to document cameras. As soon as I learned what it was, I wanted one.

I teach 32 eager and gifted students, and encourage my students to share their work.

When my students step into the classroom they are not seeing all these technological devices while learning. Too many teachers are still teaching by lecturing, but I know my students now need more. In order to keep students engaged, they need to be interested. Technology interests students. Giving them the ability to demonstrate understanding of a concepts,(writing, math, shared reading, read aloud, etc.) through a PowerPoint presentation is more appealing to them then a paper-pencil task.

My Project

The document camera will allow us to look at different ways to solve problems, to share exemplary work, and to fix up work that could use improvement. Having the document camera creates new opportunities for my students to work on public speaking and presentation skills. They are all anxious to get up and share--even my shyest kids!

The Elmo will allow my students' creativity to be brought out and they will be more inclined to try their best and be more attentive.

I know when my students see papers in color under an ELMO rather than an overhead, they will be more engaged. The color will speak to them and they will have an easier time focusing.
