My Students

Often times student work is the best tool a teacher could use to create teachable moments. When I circulate around the room and something catches my eye, I want to share it with my class. It is often difficult to really show them what I want to explain. That is where a document camera can help.

My students are fun, eager, and for the most part, love learning.

Since we are in an ICT classroom, where half is special Ed and the other half is General Ed, my co-teacher and I are always looking for ways to bridge the gap between those who struggle and those who excel. Our school has a strong support staff that really works hard with all the challenges our school faces. However, our school has a hard time keeping up with modern technology that can really enhance a teacher's lesson. The biggest problem is the lack of funds available for technology. Though we do have a projector, without a document camera we can't really make use of the little technology we already have. My co-teacher and I love integrating various modes of "team teaching" while keeping our room dynamic and alive with learning. With so many tools out there and the inability to have them, we feel like we are almost cheating our students from the perks of "modern" education

My Project

Using a document camera can really enhance the power of teaching to benefit the needs of your students. I imagine walking around the classroom, realizing something great that a student did, and being able to show students the exemplary work with a document camera. This would be great way to show how various students solve math problems and address the misunderstandings that many students may have. In reading, we can really model how we find details to support our answers, along with many other strategies we teach during reading. In writing, this can help a class edit an essay together or watch the teacher model essay writing to the whole class. For social studies and science, analyzing primary sources and photographs or data can be such a valuable addition to what we are already doing in our classroom.

By having a document camera in our classroom, we can really enhance the quality of our teaching.

Our students are getting a great education, but I feel that with a document camera, it can really be outstanding. In a classroom where we have so many different kinds of learners, and the document camera being so versatile, I think we can reach all those needs for our students. I already know our students would be so excited and engaged with the use of a document camera.
