Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at our school live in a low income area and are limited in accessing and affording quality sport teams and enrichment activities. They face multiple challenges at home and in the classroom. Many of my students have the responsibility to help their parents out at home, help translate, babysitting their younger siblings and do homework on their own. At school, many students are known by the end of year test score or their English Language Learner level. They struggle academically, therefore struggle to succeed in an area. I want to develop positive interactions with school through soccer, being the most popular sport among our students.

Soccer playing students are daring, challenge themselves and have fun!

Through sports, we introduce the idea of taking care of our bodies. Our bodies do a lot for us and we have to learn to keep them healthy. Students connect as a class with soccer, and most importantly grow while participating. Participating helps us transport our energy into other content areas in our school day.

My Project

My students idea is to play soccer! This "kid inspired" project, comes from the fact that many of our students come to school wearing soccer jerseys and indoor soccer shoes! We did a perfect attendance tournament last year in my classroom and the kids enjoyed it, they requested to have actual ribbons next time we played. Last year, the 4th and 5th graders responded well to soccer activities. This school year, I want to motivate them with the ribbons. I want to help create soccer activities for our whole school during our 2016-17 school year. We also would like Gatorade to help us stay hydrated as we keep fit playing soccer.

We can play soccer matches just like at the Rio 2016 games!

This project will help our students develop a love for physical education at our school!
