This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever loved doing something, but couldn't because you didn't have the materials? My students LOVE science but do not have the materials that will allow them to investigate with hands-on-learning.
I teach in a low income school.
Most of our students receive free or reduced cost lunch and are unable to afford even the most basic school supplies. We have a high population of ESOL, Learning Disabled, and resource room students. I have students who have the desire to learn but do not have the materials. Many of them have very few life experiences, outside of school, to connect to their learning.
My Project
With today's economic crisis it is difficult to get materials that supplement the needs of my students. Hands on science materials will help me meet the needs of every child in my classroom, while allowing students to "see" the content instead of just being taught it. By working with the Fast Facts! Science Photo Card Library, the Sink or Float kit or the Mirrors in Science kit, my students will be able to deepen their understandings of science and make connections between the curriculum and their classroom experiences.
These hands-on-learning experiences will allow my students to develop a love for science while providing connections to the content we are learning in class.
Working with these science kits will help my students not only understand the how and why of things but will develop an appreciation for the world around us.
