Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In this 21st century world kids need as much access to technology as possible. With an iPad in the classroom my students would be able to take Accelerated Reader Quizzes at their desks any time.

I teach gifted magnet kids at an international humanities magnet.

My students are smart and motivated to learn. They utilize every bit of technology that the school can provide to them to the fullest. We are currently using iMovie on Macbooks and learning more about the different software apple offers to create classroom projects and student reports. In this 21st century world it is important that students have as many opportunities as possible with the newest technologies available so they can compete in the real world when they grow up. My kids are up and eager for that challenge.

My Project

We will use the iPad in the classroom for two things. The first will be for kids to take Accelerated Reader quizzes whenever they need throughout the day. With an electronic tablet, students don't need to go to the computer lab or ask to go to the back of the room to use a desktop computer. They can quietly grab the small iPad and take it to their desk for the few minutes it would take to quiz and then return it without any disruption to the classroom. Several students could do this several times a day! The second thing we will use the iPad for is to assess reading fluency. Our school district has a adopted a new reading assessment program called Dibels that is compatible with the apple iPad for administration. Students would be tested one by one using the electronic tablet instead of the traditional paper/pencil. Their reading assessments would be far more accurate and easier to graph.

An electronic tablet would benefit my students by helping to improve and support their reading skills.

It would also enhance their technology skills and help bring them further into knowing how to utilize 21st century technology. The average classroom needs to be able to keep up with this changing world. Please support our effort to stay tech savvy and improve our reading!
