Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Working with students who grow up in an area of extreme poverty is an incredible challenge and gift that I get to experience each day. I am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of learners. About 40% of the students at our school are English Language Learners, coming from many different countries around the world.
Urban school students often do not have access to the resources they need to truly engage in meaningful learning experiences.
At this time, 100% of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students do not have access to books or computers with internet access. The needs at our school are extremely high, but our students have so much potential to succeed.
My Project
Students come to my science classroom looking to partake in engaging, inquiry-based lessons. When they are actively involved in a lesson, my students are significantly more focused and driven to learn. They are able to collaborate with one another and truly take responsibility for their own learning. Unfortunately, this is a challenge at times, due to a lack of resources that we have access to.
By donating to this project, my students will be able to develop a strong understanding of how alternative energy sources can generate electricity, and reduce our impact on the environment.
With the materials that I am asking for, my students will design their own wind turbines to see how much electricity they are able to generate. Additionally, they will test to see how the angle of the sun impacts the amount of electricity that is generated by a solar panel. Students will then take what they learn about alternative energy sources, and they will write a proposal to increase the use of renewable resources in order to reduce the impact we have on the planet.
Ultimately, students will be able to take what they learn in the classroom and make a real difference in their community. When students see the connections between their work and the actual needs of the world, they push themselves and work to their highest levels.
