My Students

I teach 3rd-5th grade orchestra. We have over 300 students currently in the intermediate school strings program. The 3rd through 5th grade students have one 30 minute lesson each week and the 4th and 5th grader students also have a one-hour rehearsal after school once a week.

The students in my orchestra are creative, self-motivated, and love to work in a team setting.

They love exploring new musical genres and are eager for new musical experiences. Having electric basses in my strings program will expand the range of music the students can create and will bring new excitement in playing the bass.

My Project

Students will be able to take lessons on bass guitar as part of the orchestra curriculum. This will expose students to a new genre of music and create more excitement to playing bass in the orchestra, and prepare students for jazz band. Students with special needs may have more success performing on a bass guitar than an upright bass.

Adding this instrument to the strings curriculum will increase student practicing, accessibility to the instrument at home, and exposure to more diverse musical opportunities.

My current curriculum will be expanded to include a unit on performing on the bass guitar.
