My Students

I am currently a third grade teacher in a high needs area. My students are diverse learners and they love hands-on activities because they are fully engaged and motivated throughout their class session, but we cannot record and track our academic discoveries.

The majority of the students in my school are struggling financially.

Some of our students even reside in shelters. Most students qualify for the state's free or reduced price meal program. Often times, the students come into class without the necessary materials to succeed in school. My school has experienced additional budget cuts. Teachers are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they desire.

My Project

My students need three digital cameras to enhance their learning. As part of the new Common Core Standards rolling out nationwide, students are required to understand many higher level ideas and concepts. Schools have a vital role in teaching both visual and linguistic literacy. In an increasingly image-driven society, developing visual literacy is indispensable. Digital cameras are tools that can help students develop that competency as we move deeper into the information age. I love doing hands-on activities, and by supplying my students/class digital cameras, they can record observations, complete activities while keeping special memories of their trips, plays and over all time in my class. Digital cameras are easy to use and, because they provide instant feedback, they are a lot of fun. Students love taking photos and their creative juices start to flow. Reluctant readers or struggling writers often find their voices emerging from what they capture in the camera viewfinder. This would be a blessing to keep in our classroom.

With your help, I hope I can provide a rich and memorable year for my students.

These digital cameras would be a priceless tool that chronicles the learning process and allows a new means of communication. My pupils can only succeed and enhance their learning if they are supplied with such a special tool. Please support my proposal!
