Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you draw a picture without a pen? Can you use a dry erase board without markers or cleaning wipes? These are the materials that we need in our classroom to help our students reach their potential.

Our class is located in Paterson, which was flooded last year by Hurricane Irene and lost power for over a week by Hurricane Sandy.

Students at our charter school often come from homes that are in the greatest need of assistance. Our class is a first grade transition class; the class contains students who would traditionally have been retained in kindergarten. The goal of our transition room is to provide intensive support so these children can still succeed without being retained and essentially missing a year.

My Project

Our students have really been excited about learning and being in school in the last few weeks. However, we really need dry erase markers and cleaning wipes for our white boards since our boards are dirty and many of our markers have dried out. They often enjoy writing in pen to make their words POP off the page. The sheet protectors will help the students' writing samples stay neatly organized in their writing binders. Finally, the laminating sheets will be used to laminate and display the stories they create in class.

These materials will help students continue to get excited about school and all the activities we do each and every day.
