My Students

All students can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way. My goal is to help them learn something new everyday, to help them appreciate the differences in life and approach everything with an open mind.

My day begins passing out breakfast to my first period students.

More than sixty percent of the students that attend my school qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Working in an impoverished system means that a large amount of time is spent ensuring students' basic needs are met. How can I be mad if someone did not bring a pencil when they slept on the floor last night? How can I be mad at a student who does not have paper and their parents do not have any mode of transportation in a rural area with no transportation infrastructure?

My Project

My Education and Training students are from four different high schools to take classes at the career tech center where I teach, The Geneva Regional Career Tech Center. These students are juniors and seniors who have chosen to learn more about the field of education as a career. They will participate in internships throughout the year to help them make the best decisions about their future. We will use supplies such as posterboard, borders, wipes and rubber cement to create lesson plans in each subject area and give the opportunity for the students to practice teaching their lesson to the class. We strive to offer hands-on, real world projects that help simulate what it would be like to be an educator.
