My Students

The students here at our school come from a rural community that stretches approximately 20 miles north and south of the school. Coming to school is a joy for them, and to be able to see and hang out with their friends is important to their social development. They are a bright, ambitious, creative and curious little group of boys and girls, mostly boys, (so the girls are a bit outnumbered, but they definitely hold their own). One of the unique activities here at Big Lagoon School is the kayaking and canoeing once a month. This gives the kids the opportunity to be physically active, hearty and have a special love and knowledge of nature.

My Project

In the last year, the teachers have been asking for character development books for the children and I have not been able to provide any from our small library. I also noticed that there are gaps in a few series of books that the upper grade students are wanting to finish reading. And, we gained more lower class student this year and now I am short a few cushions for story time.

Teaching books with fun, colorful pictures and relevant stories are a great way to teach character development to the students.

I am excited to receive these books that I have listed. Having enough cushions for each student to sit on during story time will help with those wiggles...hopefully.

Filling in the gaps of some of the series of books that the older children read will be awesome. It is so inspiring to have them come into the library and ask "Do you have the next book of this series?" And seeing the excitement in their eyes as I let them help to find that particular missing book online and add it to our wish list.
