Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning, we discuss how their previous night was and how their morning started. We discuss who has eaten and who still needs to fuel their bodies for the day ahead. School is a place to learn and a student cannot learn if they do not have a full stomach.

We are located in a dangerous area, where poverty is high and literacy is low.

We are located in an area with high crime and low income. Being able to ensure that my students are fed and full, truly impacts our day and the amount of learning they are able to do. My students come to school thinking it is a task and not something worth their while. I want to give them the tools they need to feel successful and realize they are and can be more than they think.

My Project

These materials would mean a tremendous amount to my students. The color printer will allow the students to have access to valuable visual aids. Being able to print images, worksheets and pictures in color, will help the students get the full effect of what we are talking about. The snacks will truly make a difference as well. Seeing these students come from poverty stricken home lives, I don't want them to feel they do not have the tools they need to achieve bigger and better goals. Being hungry, or not full is one of the worst ways to start a school day. If your body is not refreshed, you are not going to preform your best. I cannot help how much these kids eat or sleep at home, but I can make sure they have something to snack on in the classroom in order to fuel them for the day.

School is for learning and doing your best, in order to learn all that you can.

If a student is hungry, they are not able to put their best foot forward. Having snacks to feed the students when they are hungry, will mean they are able to have a day in school where they are learning and growing. Having a color printer will allow the students to feel as though their work matters and is important.
