Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The characteristics of my class that influence instructional strategies are both ethnic and cultural, there are 32 students in this 9th grade class, 5 African-American, 8 Dominican, 3 Ecuadorian, 1 Moroccan, 2 Nigerian, 3 Senegalese, 4 Mexican and 2 Panamanian and 4 Mexican. The subject is English for Science, as part of our STEAM initiative. The class is called Concepts in Technology.

It is a blended environment as students work online and in class.

Because of the diverse linguistic, cultural norms and expectations, I used concrete materials to assist students in grasping concepts in Tech to connect to their STEAM classes. They build Binary Machines and Sound sensors that work on Aurdino. They use 555 processors to control LEDS and We build cardboard computers to stimulate the next generation of computers. Many of my students do not speak English in their communities, so having them understand coding and computing makes them leaders in their communities. They are a joy to teach and a challenge with diverse cultural needs and possibilities for the future.

My Project

I will use the training to teach students Computer Science skills. In this day in age technical skills are in high demand and are becoming commonplace. With this training I will be able to learn skills to teach to many students that will prepare them for the modern world.

With this training I wish to start a class that allows students to become better thinkers.

In our technical world it is of the utmost importance to lay the foundation for our future. This will be one step towards preparing my students to be tomorrow’s leaders. Thank you for your support.
