Ecology & Food Justice Science Fair for South L.A.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As we begin our upcoming Ecology unit, students will learn the importance of resources on an ecosystem, from soil nutrients for plants to access to vitamin-rich foods for heterotrophs (including humans). Our students live in a food desert that lacks access to readily-available fruits and vegetables.

In this project, students will plan and conduct their own experiment about how to produce a high yield of a plant that will benefit their community.

Students will leverage their experimental findings to make a proposal about how our school could make a community garden.
