My Project

Our Dance Club currently has 16 regular members. The goal of the Dance Club is to provide an opportunity for students of diverse backgrounds to share their love for dancing with like-minded individuals. It is important to note that the club is led by the students. They choreograph, teach each other dances, and collaborate in a respectful manner. We meet once a week, after school, for two hours. After at least six hours of academic focus, and having a single opportunity to eat during lunch between 10 a.m and 2 p.m, it would be beneficial for all if supplemental healthy snack options could be provided at no cost to the students.

In addition to developing interpersonal skills, students are able to build community in a safe space and take advantage of every opportunity to put their skills on display for other members of the school community.

Our club meets at the end of a long day. Some students start at 7 a.m and others start at 8 a.m. The afterschool club sessions begin at 3 p.m. When students participate in special events, they sometimes stay back until 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Having previously purchased snacks out of pocket for members of the club, the students were noticeably more energized during warm-up and were able to better focus while practicing the dance steps. We are trying to provide snacks for the remaining 12 sessions we have left for the school year.
