Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are incredibly thoughtful and open-minded learners. After reading just the first part of The Omnivore's Dilemma, many have already started changing their eating habits—limiting soda, avoiding Takis, and reading food labels more carefully. Their curiosity and willingness to challenge their habits show their engagement in learning beyond the classroom.

By providing snacks with and without high fructose corn syrup, students will have a hands-on opportunity to compare their tastes and ingredients.

This project aims to help students apply their learning in the real world by comparing processed snacks with high fructose corn syrup to those without.

This activity will reinforce what they've learned from The Omnivore's Dilemma by allowing them to critically evaluate whether they genuinely enjoy processed snacks as much as healthier alternatives. Let's encourage our future leaders to develop a more mindful approach to food, recognize how ingredients impact their health and preferences, and determine whether they can enjoy alternatives just as much as the processed options they're used to.
