This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In a neighborhood where parents care so much about their children's safety and education, many of them cannot provide the resources needed to help their children be as prepared as they can be to be successful. Our students overcome many economic and social barriers and really are resilient, despite the obstacles. For many of our students who are trying to simply survive and to help their family survive, we (as a staff) try to provide as much as we can to these well deserving students.

My Project

While we scramble in trying to provide the best experience we can with this new distance learning experience, our community needs help and teachers want to be able to provide a good quality education. In getting creative, we will move away from books and use composition notebooks as interactive text. I would like to provide materials for them, especially because so many of our families are not working and have enough stresses. This will be more difficult because all the teachers need new supplies and they are limited, it is difficult enough to change to the new format and without the resources, it is causing great anxiety.

The document camera and the notebooks and writing tools for students, will take off some pressure from parents and me as I try to make this experience the best for all of us.

I have been teaching for 17 years now and it is an adjustment that requires more than we have at our disposal now.

Our World Languages department is small, but we have tried to create a sense of unity within our department and last year, because of very outdated textbooks, we decided to start Interactive Notebooks with our students, but we cannot sustain it for next year. Due to some regulations, we are not allowed to require supplies, but this year was so successful that we want to keep it going. Students have all their notes, work, and essential information in their notebooks and even through this distance earning, our department keeps up the use of these notebooks to keep a sense of structure and familiarity. Please consider investing in our students.
