My Students

Our classroom is filled with 26 diverse students who each contribute uniquely to the classroom environment. The school they attend is the smallest in our district in a rural part of Oregon.

Most of my students in our Title I school, do not have access to developmentally appropriate materials outside of school.

Despite their economic and personal hardships, these students come to school ready to learn and full of enthusiasm. For these students, school is a warm, safe, and caring environment and I strive each day to nurture the classroom community we have built within our classroom and foster a love for learning in each student.

My Project

We need this Display Bookstand to make our classroom library more inviting and accessible. Our book collection is currently stored in bins, making it difficult for my students to find the "just right" book they are interested in.

Having a variety of books on display for students to choose from would also expose them to a broader and diverse section of literature.

Finding a "just right" book, one that speaks to their interests and is on their reading level, is an important stepping stone to literacy. Displaying their literature options on this sturdy book display will help them see what's available and get them excited about reading.
