My Project

Second Grade is a time for more advanced learning and really ramping up the skills we have been learning since we started school, to help us expand our knowledge in different areas of math, English, writing, social studies, science and more, while also maintaining the idea of community, friendship, and connection with one another. One teaching style that helps students learn the most, in my experience, is whole group learning. When students are able to sit on the floor, outside of their seats, and brainstorm with whole group and think-pair-share activities, it helps build confidence and friendships.

Having a double-sided, moving easel, will allow for this whole group learning and connection environment that is so positive for students.

Being able to move the easel around will allow for changes in environment, moves from whole to small group learning, and will give students the ability to participate in their learning in more ways than just sitting and watching (active participation!)

The rug will fit with my theme of notebooks and pencils to promote positive learning ideas. The rug will also provide comfort for students when sitting on the floor for whole group exercises. It helps create a warm and comforting environment, which is what I want for my students. They spend a lot of their time in the classroom with me, and besides learning curriculum and learning quality being important, so is their comfort and feelings toward being in the classroom.
