Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most educators feel their classroom of students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the best and greatest students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher, but they teach me so many lessons each day as well.

Last school year I had the honor of being my students' third-grade literacy teacher.

For the 2016-2017 school year, I was granted the gift of being their teacher again.

My students attend a Title I school located in the South Bronx in which 30% live in shelters. Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher, I buy the majority of the materials they need to help them achieve their academic goals out of my own pocket because I want to provide them with the opportunities to learn and experience things they never imagined. I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges within their own life.

My Project

I am requesting an easel board in which I can write and post charts that I or my students have made to guide my students as they work. A teaching easel will give me a place to work on a whiteboard or with magnetic materials when teaching whole group or small group lessons on our classroom rug. They will later be hung around the classroom for all to see. A teaching easel will provide a work space for whiteboard markers that students may use independently during our reading and workstation period.

My students need an easel for both our Reading and Writing Workshop in which we create and use the charts we make together as a reference tool.

Being that the easel is double sided I will be able to use my side for my small instruction while my independent workers used the side with our created anchor chart.

A teaching easel will give my students a place to create and refer back to our class-created "anchor charts" as we learn new concepts. This easel will provide students with our whole group learning space, allowing it to be more functional and interactive. This learning tool will allow students to collaborate and build on their peers thoughts. The amount of possibilities for this classroom tool are endless. I can only imagine how magical it will be for my students to use this easel to present their projects and to use it as a resource to teach their peers. Every dollars counts, please help bring new educational magic into my classroom!
