My students all come from different backgrounds. This includes many from low income households. School is their place to come to feel safe and be challenged on many levels. They are hard workers who want to do their very best.
They are active members of our busy classroom community.
As soon as they step into my door they are entering our own special community. We share stories from the night before. We laugh, we cry, and we encourage each other.
My Project
We are in need of a new easel that will be used during our morning meeting in addition to small and whole group instruction. It has wheels so it can be moved ANYWHERE around the room making it a mobile teaching station. This will increase engagement of the lessons.
This easel will be a core component of classroom instruction.
The easel has two separate sides where students can write to contribute to conversations. One side is lined so they will be able to practice correct handwriting sizing and spacing. It has a magnetic board which enables the students to build and break apart words using magnetic letters. This helps to increase phonemic awareness. It has plenty of storage containers so students will learn to take responsibility for our classroom materials by returning them to the correct areas.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
