Easel Learning in Special Education

My Students

I am a fifth-grade special education teacher in a large public school. My seven students range in needs and abilities, but they all love learning and coming to school each day! They each learn differently, so it’s important to me to try to touch upon each style. Many of my students learn best in small group settings using visual and hands-on materials.

My Project

I am a fifth grade special education teacher to a wide variety of students. The school I teach at has a very large, diverse population. My classroom has many different learners with many different learning styles. I have the privilege of teaching students with a variety of special needs.

I went to the storage room to look for an easel and the only ones available were broken and missing some screws.

The district I teach in does not allocate funds to replace easels as they fall apart.

My students would benefit from an easel in many ways. As a special education teacher, I spend a lot of time teaching in a small group setting. The easel will serve as a visual aid for all of my students to learn the concept at hand. Instead of just hearing me teach about a concept, the students will see me demonstrate it as well. In a special education classroom, the students mostly learn by example. The easel will allow me to model the skill we are working on. The easel will also allow me to read print rich big books to the kids in my class. The easel will allow my hands to be free to point to the words while I read the big books to my students. It will allow me to capitalize on teachable moments.

Your help will ensure that my students have a valuable teaching tool in the classroom. The easel will benefit every child in my classroom. I will be able to demonstrate vital skills that each student needs to learn in order to succeed.

I am very excited about the possibility of having a working easel in my classroom. Thank you for making a difference in the education of young learners.
