My Students

Second grade is such an exciting time in a child's life. Students are learning to become more independent but still need support from the adults in their lives. My goal for my students is to increase their ability to work independently and to take charge of their education.

My second graders enjoy the independence of literacy workstations.

The second graders in my class are eager to learn more independently during reading and writer's workshop. I have 23 students in my second grade class. Our class is the smallest. Most classes have 25 to 26 kids. Our school has over 1,000 students and we are only in our second year.

My Project

I pride myself in providing excellent independent activities and engaging lessons. Unfortunately the budget I am provided with by the school doesn't cover "luxuries" like easels and items needed for Reader's and Writer's Workshop. During these Workshops, students are involved in a variety of literacy workstations. While students rotate from one station to the next I work with students one on one or in small groups. Your support will get us an easel that my students can use during our literacy rotations to write on, complete word work, and use for big books. I will also use the easel during whole class mini lessons.

Your donations will help my project by allowing me to bring materials to my students' eye level, while they are sitting on the carpet.

My students will benefit from the easel, by using it to stay actively engaged in their rotations.
