My Students

Natural disasters are always interesting to watch. With help of hands-on projects and models my students can experience earthquakes, volcanoes, and tornadoes with there own eyes and hands. We all learn better by seeing and doing than just out of what we read in a book.

I teach the Alternative Learning Environment in a high poverty school.

My students are not always bad, just misunderstood, and need some guidance. I have 7th through 12th graders who can be enrolled in my classroom from 9 weeks to the whole school year. Many of these students just need someone to believe in them and what they can succeed academically and I try my hardest to be that teacher.

My Project

I am requesting models and experiments that correspond with our state standards and will help my students see things first hand. We cover earthquakes, volcanoes, and tornadoes in not only 11th Environmental science, but also 7th and 8th grade science. These hands-on resources will help my students see how and why these natural disasters happen and what damage they can cause.

Remember Ms. Frizzle the teacher from the Magic School Bus?

She is the teacher I strive to be. I want my students to learn what they need to learn but have fun while doing it. What better way to learn about a volcanoes than to construct one and make it explode? What better way to learn about a tornado than to watch one form? What does an earthquake do to a house?
