Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The reusable grocery bags will serve as a tangible reminder of the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility. By giving students these bags, we are encouraging them to think beyond the classroom and consider their role in protecting the planet. For English learners, this project also provides an opportunity to expand their vocabulary and understanding of environmental terms in a meaningful context. The bags will serve as both a practical item and a learning tool, teaching them how small actions—like using reusable bags instead of plastic—can make a big difference in preserving the environment. This aligns with developing their eco-consciousness, language skills, and responsibility toward a sustainable future.

The primary goal is to raise awareness about environmental issues, especially the impact of plastic waste, while fostering a sense of responsibility in students toward protecting the Earth.

For English learners, this project will also serve as an engaging way to practice English in a real-world context, helping them to build their language skills while learning about important global issues.

My students are creative, curious, and eager to learn about new ways to help make the world a better place. Many of them are English learners, and this project provides an opportunity to engage them in both language development and environmental awareness. They come from diverse backgrounds and often bring unique perspectives to environmental issues. What makes them special is their natural enthusiasm for being active participants in change. Despite the challenges of learning a new language, they show resilience and a strong desire to understand and contribute to the world around them. This project will not only deepen their connection to the Earth but also offer a chance to expand their English vocabulary and improve communication skills in a meaningful, real-life context.
