Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students' area is a wonderful mixture of diversity. The school is in an urban setting and is majority African American and Latino. Ninety-seven percent of the student population receives free or reduced-price lunch and their test scores fall far below the state average.

I am a new teacher and want to help bring these students all that they deserve!

I am so looking forward to being a difference to these students and you can help me make that happen for them.

My Project

I have chosen two items for this project. Both of the items are communication devices. Communication is integral in everyday life, yet it is especially important in a kindergarten classroom where things are so new, including language.

If the students are able to hear and express themselves, their level of understanding of the lessons will increase tremendously!

I have one student who is deaf in one ear, another student with autism and another with ADHD. Having the microphone in the classroom will allow these students to be able to focus on what is being spoken to them. Being able to have that extra aide of hearing the lesson clearer will allow them to apply it better. Thus becoming a stronger learner.

The translator device will be helpful in the classroom as I have two students who speak no English and several others who speak only a few words of English. I can also use this device to speak to the parents as I know very little Spanish. This will help connect my community in and out of the classroom.
