My Students

Can you hear the difference between the word pin and pen? Cot and cut? My students are not able to hear the difference. This makes it nearly impossible for them to read and spell words correctly.

Imagine closing your eyes and being asked to describe a picture you have never been allowed to see.

Imagine forming an opinion about a song you have never been allowed to hear. Try winning a basketball game with a room full of struggling players and you do not have a ball or net. Students living with disabilities struggle to meet the same expectations as those without disabilities AND do it without the necessary tools. This is life for me and my students.

My Project

My students will use Earobics, a research based intervention program, to develop the neurological pathways related to reading, memory, and attention. Earobics is an interactive, computer based program and my students need a computer to use it. We will use this engaging program to stimulate intrinsic motivation while building skills.

Without intervention the gap continues to widen for students who struggle to read.

Earobics will help close the achievement gap as it boasts: "97 percent of students who use Earobics achieve significant improvements in reading."
