My Students

I teach an enthusiastic group of third through fifth graders who are each as unique as they are lovable. My students are eager to learn and grow. Their passion for learning comes out in so many ways, from sharing their opinions on our class read alouds to expressing their thoughts and feelings in their reflection journals. Although all my students have their own strengths and growth areas, we all particularly love our daily independent reading time where we turn on our twinkle lights, get cozy, and curl up with good book.

My students thrive in environments where they feel known, loved, and valued.

As a class we are striving to build that space for each other. My students come from many different backgrounds and have many different needs, but each day we are committed to coming together and supporting one another in our learning journey.

My Project

Struggling readers, particularly as they get older, have a hard time finding books that are both decodable and engaging. Luckily, some amazing authors have taken on the challenge of writing engaging series books for emergent readers. Author's like Dav Pilkey (of Captain Underpants fame), Cynthia Rylant, Mo Willems, and many others have created series that are both accessible and exciting for struggling readers. Unfortunately, those engaging series are not found in most classroom libraries.

Providing students with access to books they can independently read and enjoy will foster a love of reading that will last a lifetime.

By supporting this project, you are putting books in the hands of young readers and fostering confidence in their reading abilities. My hope for my students is that wherever they are on their reading journey they can find books they can read and love over and over again. Help me make that hope a reality by getting engaging, decodable series books into my classroom library.
