My Project

Our school has a diverse student body and over 20 spoken languages are represented. We asked students to request titles for early reader books and these came to the top of the request list. We are asking for Dirt and Bugsy to represent African-American characters, Geraldine Pu a Taiwanese American, and Ali the Great a Pakistani American. We are also excited to add several books featuring favorite characters and animals like Interrupting Cow, Pete the Kitty, Sir Ladybug, and the newest Geisel honor book for 2024 "Worm and Caterpillar are Friends." These animal books are perfect for our diverse students, English language learners, reading intervention students, and special education students to grow as readers, as the vocabulary is easy and the books are of high interest.

Growing readers takes practice and what better way to put in time reading than with books personally selected by our students.

These books should prove to be engaging and interesting to our students. I can't wait to see them eagerly selecting these new early reader books that represent our racial diversity and the interests of our students.
